Back to the lake we go!

We finally kicked off lake house season this weekend. Greg and I each took a 1/2 day on Friday so we could head out early. The boys were great in the car 🙂

We stopped at Michael’s for a quick bite on the way…Joey had his first Michael’s Red Hot!

Bubbie wanted to make Joey a special dessert on Saturday night but Joey wanted nothing to do with the sticky marshmellow. He was happy to eat some chocolate though. Maybe next year?

We headed to Lake Geneva on Sunday morning for breakfast and some shopping.

Sarah’s 30th

Yesterday would have been Sarah’s 30th birthday. Many of her good friends got together to celebrate her, at one of her favorite restaurants.

In true Sarah fashion, she is still giving, though she is no longer here. She is the best, constant reminder I have to live each day to the fullest and not to sweat the small stuff. I’m a better mom, wife, counselor and friend because of her.

In Sarah’s memory, we’re working on building a scholarship fund at U of I. The scholarship will be needs-based for students who intend to become teachers. Due the generosity of over 200 people, we’re 75% to our goal. When we reach our goal, a $1000 scholarship will be awarded yearly- forever.

Celebrating “2”

Breanna and Joey celebrated together in the morning. She made him a special breakfast and a birthday crown (although he refused to wear the crown for me).

Bubbie stopped by to play in the morning and Aunt Lori and Aunt Michy came over to spend the afternoon with him. The kids had a great time playing!

Greg grilled and I made some corn on the cob for dinner. Corn is one of Joey’s favorite foods but he can’t have it too often because it gives him diaper rash. He really made the most of this opportunity, eating both his cob and mine.

Poppy joined us for dinner/cake last night, along with Aunt Abby!

We saved some presents from his party this weekend so he would have plenty more to open.

We let Joey stay up late to play with his new toys. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying Tidmouth Sheds…

Happy 2nd Birthday, Joey!

I can’t believe he’s 2 already. Where has the time gone? It’s amazing how much our lives have changed for the better in the past two years. Joey, you continue to amaze us each day and we’re so proud to be your parents 🙂

We knew we wouldn’t see Joey this morning so Greg and I both put him to bed last night and spent some great quality time with him. He was so happy to have our undivided attention.

A beautiful day in the neighborhood!

I came home from work to this view – no more water tower! Breanna said Joey had so much fun watching the building being knocked down. She said he was like a commentator at a sporting event, giving the play-by-play!

We went for a stroll yesterday after work. It was beautiful outside!

We ended up in the courtyard in front of our house. Joey ran around with the other kids who lived there, while the babies all chilled on the blanket…

After the other kids left, Joey got to watch a little Thomas while I fed Benji.

Birthday Dinner at Joe’s

Joey’s 2nd Birthday Party

We celebrated Joey’s 2nd birthday at Bubbie and Zeyde’s house this weekend. They had the perfect basement/backyard set up for all the different-aged kids. We had a BEAUTIFUL day and Joey was THRILLED to have a Thomas-themed party!

The kids started out in the basement. Joey spent 95% of his time with the trains, and maybe 5% of his time shooting hoops.

The party moved upstairs for lunch and some outdoor fun…

We gave Joey an early birthday present, a Thomas ride-on train. He had a blast riding it around the backyard.

We had a little arts ‘n crafts station where the kids could color their own wooden train. Joey didn’t even make it to the table until all of his friends had left…

Some of Joey’s cousins stuck around after the party ended to help unwrap some of his gifts. We saved most of them so we could spread the wealth throughout the week!

5 Months Old

Officially sitting up on his own!

Eating pureed veggies (loves carrots, dislikes oatmeal)

Getting up once per night (time not predictable)

Sleeps with a softie (and LOVES chewing on it)

Loves chewing on his fists and feet

Enjoys his pacifier when he’s tired

Officially done breastfeeding

LOVES to smile (and thinks Joey is hilarious)

Sleeps in the corner of his crib

Has begun reaching for people

Doesn’t love going for walks in the stroller for long periods of time

Naps well in his carseat (but doesn’t like getting in it)

Absolutely adorable!

Grandma and Grandpa are in town!

Grandma and Grandpa are in town for Joey’s 2nd birthday party! We went out for sushi dinner last night. Joey was so tired from his sleepover at Nanny and Poppy’s the night before that he fell asleep on the way to dinner.

Joey tried his first “real” sushi and he was not a fan. He was, however, thrilled with the two orders of edamame and plenty of white rice…

After dinner we took Joey for ice cream. He ate an entire scoop of Cookies ‘n Cream and was FULL of energy! Fortunately, Grandma and Grandpa came over afterward to burn off some of Joey’s energy with him…

I worked this morning so Grandpa came over to help Greg with the kids. The boys had a great time playing baseball!

The boys even ventured out for lunch on their own!

Joey’s 1st Sleepover at Nanny at Poppy’s!

Nanny picked up Joey on Thursday morning and they spent the day together. They hit up the grocery store and the park!

When I got home from work, Aunt Michy and I took the little boys for a walk. They’re getting so big!

Nanny, Poppy, Sadie and Joey watched some Thomas before settling in for the night!

Joey was up nice and early on Friday morning, excited for the day ahead! Poppy made him a great breakfast (which he shared with Sadie)

On Friday, Joey had a very special birthday celebration at school. Nanny and Poppy brought in cupcakes for Joey to share with his classmates.

Joey (and his parents) are looking forward to many more sleepovers in the coming years 🙂

Dinner with Aunt Val & Uncle Shel!

We were able to get together with Aunt Val & Uncle Shel last night! We had a great time catching up! Aunt Val always brings a new book for the boys when she sees them. She always knows to pick just the right one (we’ve never received one we already had). Joey got a new book about trains, which we were able to read SEVERAL times before bed last night!

I think Benji may be teething. He was real fussy last night and didn’t sleep well, not to mention he has EVERYTHING in his mouth these days…
