Hives, hives go away!

Joey is covered, head to toe, in hives.  Although the pneumonia has resolved itself, he had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic he was on.  He broke out over a week ago and is still covered.  We were back at the doctor on Thursday to see if there was anything they could do to stop him from itching.

Two doctors and 45 minutes later they decided to take him off his latest antibiotic in case it was contributing to the hives as well.  Now we sit and wait 🙁

I still managed to get Benji to music class this week.  I had been keeping him home as well, as I didn’t want him bringing anything new back to Joey.  It’s super important that Joey doesn’t get sick again, as they don’t know what antibiotic they can treat him with.  The next stop is the allergist!

Last night Aunt Cari babysat so Greg and I could sneak out for a quick date night.

The boys had a blast!  Greg and I grabbed a quick dinner at Rosebud and went to see Gravity in 3D

Fall Photos

We took some great family photos last week!  The best part?  The photographer was so great, our kids had no idea photos were even being taken!

Poor Kiddo

Joey’s had quite the week 🙁

We ended up on the ER on Friday night because he was breathing so fast!  Fortunately, Lurie Children’s was a child-friendly as it could possibly be! After a breathing treatment, chest x-ray, and watching Cars The Movie 3 times, they determined he had pneumonia and sent us home to bed!

Such a trooper 🙂

We told him it was a giant high chair.  He was totally cool with it until we had to strap his arms down 🙁

While we were in the hospital, Benji spent the night at Chateau Burnett.  He had a blast with Noah and loved getting pampered the “Burnett Way”!

We were hoping the worst was over, but our little tough guy has had a few more rough nights since then.  He’s been staying with us since Friday night, watching way too much TV, eating lots of junk food, taking cool baths in our tub, and getting lots of 1:1 attention!

Getting him back in his own bedroom should be interesting!

He caught on to our chocolate milk laced with antibiotic trick 2 days in and started refusing the drugs so we switched to something new.  He’s now had an allergic reaction to that so we’re watching him closely.  We’re hoping tomorrow’s the day he begins to feel better! Fingers crossed!!!

Happy 30th to Me!

We had a pretty low key birthday celebration this year, as everyone was under the weather and I was exhausted from taking care of everyone!  We still managed a nice celebration!  We ordered in one of my favorites (Rosebud) and had cake from Deerfield’s Bakery!!

On the Saturday before we were invited to Ricky’s place for a housewarming dinner.  Hilary was thoughtful enough to turn it into a birthday celebration as well, even bringing in my favorite, McDonald’s soft serve!

Check out my birthday present from Bubbie and Zeyde!  It’s Benji and Joey’s name written in Hebrew.  Michele started the trend and Lori and Bubbie quickly jumped on board!  I was so excited to join the “club”.  Now I have a white gold and yellow gold name necklace so they can be with me no matter what color I’m sporting!

1st Full Week of Preschool

Joey had his first “full week” of preschool this week.  I’m so glad they send out daily summaries because when I ask him what he did, all I get is “played cars and had a snack”.

They husked corn and used it to paint, played with funnels at the water table, made play dough, sang songs (Bim Bam, Old Shoes, New Shoes, The Leaves, There’s a Dinosaur Knocking at My Door), enjoyed (indoor) recess, and made challah!  Joey is very particular about his challah these days…The school’s challah did NOT pass the test and he promptly asked for some of Aunt Lori’s challah (it was SO cute!)

I joined the last few minutes of class on Tuesday to be the “mystery reader”.  Joey was able to tell me what book he wanted me to bring in (Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site) and he was thrilled when I arrived with it!

Play Date at the Park

We met Joey’s old play date group for a park date last week.  It was a full time job keeping up with both boys at the park!

Joey had his first “real” injury, even requiring a steri strip.  The Cars bandaid is just for “effect”.

First football practice!  Breanna said Joey did not like the “warm up” drills (i.e. stretching and running) but had a blast once the footballs came out!

Weekend with my Boys!

Greg had his annual “boys trip” for the Bears game this weekend.  While they were having fun in Detroit, we made our own fun at home!

On Saturday night, Gogo, Bubbie, Abby & Cari came over for dinner and some fun!  Joey was especially happy to see Zebo and Pacman.  Aunt Cari was brave enough to give the boys a double bath!

Sunday morning started with our usual wrestle session Joey’s crib.  Benji LOVES pulling Joey’s hair.  I think he’s smart enough to know that since he’s smaller and needs to fight smart…

Any time Joey sees one of us working, he asks if he can “work” too.  He then hops up on our lap and demands the Cars website…

9 Month Checkup

Benji had his 9 month appointment on Monday.  Aside from his refusal to drink enough formula, he’s doing great!

We had to wait a bit for the doctor…

Little Cruiser

Benji’s 9 months tomorrow and all he wants for his 3/4 birthday is to be like Joey!  Unfortunately, the balance is going to take a few more months! Make sure to check out the wipe out at the way end of the video!

1st Day of Drop Off Preschool!

Joey had his 1st day of school on Tuesday…He made me one proud Mama!  I dropped him off and said “goodbye” without turning back (despite the burning desire I had to go back in and check on him)!

The teachers all said he was well behaved (no tears) and had a great 1st day!

Debrief later that night!

Here’s what he really did per the class email…

In the Classroom

  • Art: decorated their “snack mats” for the year.  We helped each child find his or her name on a white piece of paper, and then he or she used dot paints to decorate it.  This activity fostered name recognition, fine motor skills with the dot painters and obviously – color recognition! We are going to laminate these and then every day for snack, each child will use his or her name recognition skills to find his or her seat.
  • Open Exploration: The children were able to explore with magna tiles at the front side table.  This fabulous toy promotes pre-science skills and fine motor skills.  With the new way our classroom is set up, the children are able to make independent play choices.  We rotate what is available to them but for the first few weeks, we have out bins with trains, cars, and mini people.
  • Super Sensory Sensations: Playdough was available at the front small table, allowing the children to squeeze, knead and roll the dough.  Playdough can help children to self regulate as it is soothing for many.  It can also enhance fine motor and creative skills, with the squeezing (strengthening fine motor skills) and the molding. In the water table, we had cups, balls and bowls for scooping, pouring and tossing.
  • Gross Motor Fun: We had beautiful weather on Tuesday and spent the end of the day outside, where we run, climb, and slide.  This time provides children with the opportunity to explore their place in space.  We also played Ring around the Rosie and blew bubbles, which the children took such delight in!

Songs:

Hickity Pickity Bumblebee, Will You Say Your Name For Me?

Wheels on the Bus

Itsy Bitsy Spider

Books:

David Goes to School by David Shannon
