My first Business Trip!

I headed out early Tuesday morning for Philadelphia to attend the Independent Educational Consultant Association’s Summer Institute with 100 other consultants.  The trip was incredibly worthwhile, as I learned a TON of information, made some great connections and even managed to squeeze in 4 campus visits!

I stayed in a college (Swarthmore) dorm for 4 days, showered in the communal showers, and attended “class” in the school’s lecture halls…I slid right back into the college life, except for the fact that I was sleeping each night by 10PM…I actually slept quite peacefully without the baby monitor next to my head!

Swarthmore had this giant lawn chair in the middle of campus.  I finally climbed up on it on my last day there for a photo op!

Image 12

Here we are on our “official” campus tour.  Swarthmore, a small (1500 students) liberal arts college, is about 10 miles outside Philly.

Image 26

Image 14

We made sure to get off campus to see some of the surrounding schools as well.  On Thursday night we went to University of Pennsylvania for a tour and had dinner on campus.  U Penn had a ton of beautiful outdoor sculptures all over, definitely a site to be seen!

Image

On Friday night we skipped dinner so we could check out Villanova and Bryn Mawr, both beautiful!

Image 15

Image 13

There was a ton of construction going on at Villanova, which made the tour a bit of a challenge but it was wonderful to see so more much being put into an already beautiful campus!  I had to get a shot with the crane for Joey…

Image 7

Bryn Mawr, an all-girls liberal arts college, was just a few minutes away from Villanova.  There were such beautiful, historical buildings and we were able to talk to a few students staying on campus for the summer who just raved about their experience.

Image 11

While I was away, the kids did great!  Breanna and Greg covered Tuesday and Wednesday night.  Here’s a photo Breanna sent to me of Joey doing a letter-matching activity she created!

When I found out the date for the Institute, I was so bummed to see it landed on the same weekend as Sidewalk Sale, one of my favorite sales of the year!  Fortunately, Bubbie and Auntie Michy more than took care the boys!

The kids loved their adventure, so much so that Joey was too busy to say “hi” when I would call to FaceTime.

All in all the trip was great.  I’m so excited to be back home with my family and to apply all I learned!

Special Kids Network

We went to a Special Kids Network event last night at Gibson’s.  Great-Grandpa Morrie has been very involved in this wonderful organization for more than a decade so it was great to be able to go and show our support.  A night out, sans kids, is always nice, too!

Happy 1st Birthday, Max!

We celebrated Max’s 1st Birthday today!  Benji loved the singer who came to entertain, inserting himself right in the middle of the fun!

IMG_0003

Joey was ultra-focused on the dessert bar from the minute he saw it.  We explained to him that he couldn’t have anything until we sang “Happy Birthday” to Max.

IMG_0007

He did a great job following the rules and the second after we sang, he requested (and received) his cake pop!

IMG_0017

Max really took full advantage of his “smash cake!”

Botanic Gardens

We took an impromptu trip up to the suburbs on Saturday morning to ensure our freshly cleaned carpets had enough time to dry.  Our plan was to get Joey a haircut, but once in the chair, the hair stylist talked me out of chopping off Joey’s beautiful curls.  Instead, we visited the Botanic Gardens!  90% of our time was spent in the train exhibit, which is truly impressive…

Joey was SO happy there.  He couldn’t decide which train to follow, or where to check out next!

We went to the butterfly exhibit on our way out.  Joey was fascinated, but was also tired and hungry by that point.  He lasted about 5 minutes…

New discovery!

Greg left the gate open a few nights ago so Benji had the opportunity to discover the steps!  We learned its a great workout for him before bed.  We have him climb all 3 flights before we put him down for the night!

We are still working hard to find a food that Benji doesn’t like.  He even ate straight lemons at dinner the other night without flinching!

Happy Birthday, Lexi!

We celebrated Lexi’s 1st birthday this weekend at Bubbles.  Such a happy birthday girl!

IMG_0033

We took a class at Bubbles when Joey was a baby and he never really got into it.  Nothing has changed, as he was interested in everything except the instructor/music…

IMG_0030

IMG_0054

Benji, on the other hand, couldn’t get enough!  The kid had a blast dancing to the music and crawling all around!

We kept having to pull Benji back…

Visit with Grandma and Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa were in town for a quick visit this weekend!  We got up and moving early Saturday morning so we could take full-advantage.  Joey insisted on wearing sunglasses that were the same color as his shirt…

IMG_0098

Off  to Lincoln Park Zoo!  Joey’s favorite exhibits were the monkeys and the seals.

IMG_0102

Checking out the bears!  We told Joey all about Grandma and Grandpa’s adventures in the wild.  He’s looking forward to joining them on safari one day soon!

IMG_0103

Picnic at Green City Market.  This place was GREAT and I highly recommend it after a LPZ morning.  FYI, it’s only open until 1PM.

IMG_0105

On Saturday night, we had dinner at Siena Tavern.  Grandma and Grandpa loved the food/wine and the boys were on their best behavior!

IMG_0111

Joey loved dessert!

IMG_0118

Grandpa stopped by for some kisses this afternoon.  We decided to take a quick trip to Target to pick out a special “Grandpa present”

To most, this scene would look like no big deal.  But to Joey, anyone messing with his trains is a big deal!  We’re so proud of you, Joey!

Sunday BBQ

Up north we headed for Sunday night BBQ!  Bubbie did a drive-by so we were able to see her for a brief visit and get these great shots!

4th of July

We had a great time at the lake this past weekend.  Joey’s weekend began early, with a jam-packed day.  Aunt Abby, Aunt Cari & Alex took him to the Botanical Gardens to check out the massive train exhibit…He LOVED it (and still asks to return).  Even the adults said it was pretty impressive!

IMG_0022

Everyone was able to make it up to the lake for the weekend.  We all got up there late Wednesday night.  Early Thursday morning, we changed all of the kids into the matching pajamas that Bubbie got them for a little photo shoot!  So cute, huh?!

I had to bribe Joey with some chocolate milk to get in the photo…

Joey’s hair was getting in his way and he kept asking for a hat.  This was the best I could come up with, but he seemed content…

Later in the day we went to check out the city’s fair.  It was definitely underwhelming, although Joey enjoyed his first snow cone.

The kids twins went too!

IMG_0066

IMG_0067

The most exciting part about the entire excursion was following the fire truck (in route to a car accident) on the way home.  Joey loved watching the lights/sirens and singing “Fireman Sam” along the way.

On Saturday we ventured out again to the 4th of July parade!  After the under whelming city fair, no one wanted to go to the parade so I took Joey with Bubbie and Zeyde.

IMG_0088

Joey LOVED seeing all of the firetrucks and ambulances.  He loved them even more when he realized they were all throwing candy out to the crowds…

IMG_0095

During a break in the parade, Joey wandered toward the sidewalk.  I watched him to see what he was doing and it took me a minute to realize he went to find some shade (the only shade anywhere in sight).  Such a problem-solver!

Three tootsie pops later, it was time to get back to these adorable faces!

Abrupt Wakeup Call

Benji has learned how to pull himself up in his crib, but keeps forgetting how to sit back down.  Each morning, promptly at 7:15AM, the shrieking begins and doesn’t stop until we get him out.  Fortunately we know from Joey this phase only lasts a few weeks.

Happy Birthday Bubbie & Aunt Michy

Nanny and Poppy came over Sunday for lunch.  Joey LOVES Sadie (and Sadie just wants Joey to leave him alone)…

We went to Siena Tavern for the double birthday celebration.  The private room was the perfect choice for the infants (and their frequent diaper changes).  The food (and wine) was awesome too!

IMG_0002

We fed Benji right away because we’ve learned that 6:45/7PM is as late as he can last…

IMG_0004

Greg and I took him for a little walk after the first course so he’d fall asleep.  He’s our “I want what I want when I want it” child and he wanted to go to sleep in peace.  Fortunately, he stayed sleeping in his stroller for the remainder of dinner…

Uncle Dickie was in charge of Joey while we went for a walk.  He did a great job…I think he’s ready for his first overnight!

IMG_0014

Joey worked hard on his birthday cards for both Bubbie and Aunt Michy.  He drew a picture of Pacman and Zebo for Bubbie’s card.

This kid LOVES to eat!

Benji continues to be extremely enthusiastic about his food.  He’ll cry in anticipation when he gets seated in his high chair and he’ll cry when his stash is running low.  We moved onto “finger foods” these last few weeks to try and slow him down…

Very busy burning off his dinner…

Cuddling before bed…

Fun with A & C

Aunt Abby & Aunt Cari took Joey out on Sunday afternoon. From the photos, it looks like they were all over the city!  Of course, Aunt Cari taught Joey to say something funny within just a few minutes of being together…

They first headed to a firehouse to check out the big truck.  Joey was not a fan.  If fact, he started crying when they put him in the truck.

Off the Navy Pier they went!  They visited Build-a-Bear (a first for him), where Joey picked out a sponge bob stuffed animal.

They also made a Bears animal for cousin Noah, which I’m sure Joey will steal back the first chance he gets…

He enjoyed lugging around the box afterward, and insisted on doing it on his own….
